Engineer Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Causal & Decision Systems at CSC Generation

Build production machine learning systems for causal inference and automated decision-making in pricing, inventory, and business operations.

Senior Posted about 6 hours ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

CSC Generation is building closed-loop decision systems that use machine learning to operate consumer businesses more intelligently.

We are starting with pricing and expanding into areas such as inventory, purchasing, promotions, marketing, and assortment.

The Role

You will help build systems that:

**estimate causal response + quantify uncertainty → choose actions → generate useful information → observe outcomes → update policies → evaluate challengers → deploy within guardrails**

We want to answer questions such as:

- What happens **because we change a price**, rather than simply what happens next?

- How should uncertainty affect a decision?

- When should the system exploit what it knows versus experiment to learn?

- Can we estimate the value of a challenger policy before fully deploying it?

- How do we optimize economic outcomes while respecting inventory, margin, vendor, customer, and operational constraints?

What You’ll Work On

Depending on your background, you may work across:

- causal and heterogeneous treatment-effect modeling;

- uncertainty estimation and calibration;

- contextual bandits, active learning, or sequential decision-making;

- policy learning and constrained optimization;

- counterfactual and off-policy evaluation;

- experimentation and champion/challenger systems;

- production ML infrastructure, monitoring, and automated deployment.

We care about selecting the right method, not using a particular framework.

What Success Looks Like

Success is not a better offline metric.

The systems you build should produce measurable economic lift in controlled experiments, generalize across businesses, learn from their own interventions, and safely automate an increasing share of real commercial decisions.

Over time, the goal is simple:

**the system should become better at operating the business because it has operated the business.**

What We’re Looking For

We care more about exceptional technical ability and judgment than matching a checklist.

Strong candidates will have experience in several of:

- machine learning and statistical modeling;

- causal inference and experimentation;

- recommendation, advertising, pricing, marketplace, credit, or other decision systems;

- bandits, reinforcement learning, optimization, or active learning;

- uncertainty estimation;

- counterfactual evaluation;

- production ML systems;

- Python, SQL, and large behavioral datasets.

Why This Role Is Different

Most ML systems learn from a dataset.

Here, **the decisions made by the model influence the data the model sees next**.

That creates a continuous loop:

**Decision → intervention → outcome → learning → better decision**

The long-term opportunity is to build that capability once and apply it across a portfolio of businesses and increasingly broad commercial decisions.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.

Engineer Senior Back End Developer at CoLab

Senior backend engineer builds scalable retrieval pipelines, AI search infrastructure, and services powering intelligent experiences across an engineering platform.

Senior Posted about 6 hours ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

About CoLab

At CoLab, we help mechanical engineering teams bring life-changing products to market years sooner.

CoLab is the AI platform for driving stronger engineering decisions. Every design review in CoLab builds a knowledge repository of design feedback, decisions, and lessons learned - which AI agents draw from to flag issues on future designs before they compound. The more your team works in CoLab, the smarter it gets and the faster you arrive at the ideal design. Companies like Ford, Komatsu, and Johnson Controls use CoLab to catch issues earlier, eliminate rework cycles, and bring products to market faster.

Founded in St. John’s, Newfoundland, CoLab has grown quickly from our first customer in 2019 to a rapidly scaling company. We’ve recently been recognized on Deloitte’s Fast 50™ and Fast 500™, and named a Canadian company to watch by The Globe and Mail and Financial Post.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our Build Operator team.

Operator isn’t a chatbot bolted onto our product. It’s becoming the intelligence layer across CoLab, helping engineering teams search company knowledge, surface design decisions, answer complex questions, and generate insights from years of engineering work.

You’ll join the team responsible for the backend systems that make this possible. That means building scalable retrieval pipelines, evolving our AI search infrastructure, integrating structured and unstructured engineering data, and developing the services that power intelligent experiences across the platform.

Over the next year, Operator will expand well beyond conversational search. You’ll help build capabilities like company-wide knowledge retrieval, dynamic reporting, AI-generated dashboards, and personalized engineering insights that become embedded throughout CoLab.

This is a role for someone who enjoys solving deep backend problems. You’ll spend far more time thinking about data architecture, search quality, retrieval systems, and scalable services than building user interfaces.

The work is complex and often ambiguous. This role exists because there often isn’t an existing pattern to follow.

Our Ideal Candidate

You’re an experienced backend engineer who enjoys building systems that make complex information useful.

You like thinking about how data is organized, retrieved, and transformed into something customers can trust. Whether you’re designing APIs, optimizing distributed systems, or improving search relevance, you care about building infrastructure that quietly powers exceptional product experiences.

You don’t need previous experience building AI products, but you’re excited about applying modern AI technologies to solve real customer problems.

You likely won’t enjoy this role if:

  • You prefer working primarily on frontend applications
  • You want highly defined requirements before starting work
  • You’d rather optimize existing systems than design entirely new capabilities

You’ll thrive if:

  • You enjoy designing backend systems from first principles
  • You like difficult infrastructure and data problems
  • You’re curious about AI, search, and knowledge systems
  • You balance technical excellence with pragmatism and collaboration

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and build the backend services that power Operator
  • Develop scalable retrieval systems that connect engineering knowledge across design reviews, notebooks, search, and other product surfaces
  • Build APIs and services that enable AI-powered experiences throughout the platform
  • Improve search quality, data pipelines, and knowledge retrieval performance
  • Expand Operator’s capabilities to support intelligent reporting, dashboards, and engineering insights
  • Design systems that organize company knowledge across business units, engineering domains, and manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate closely with AI, Product, Design, and Engineering to deliver customer-facing capabilities
  • Improve reliability, observability, and performance across backend infrastructure
  • Mentor teammates through architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical leadership

Qualifications

  • 7+ years building production backend software
  • Strong experience with Python and modern backend development
  • Experience building APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications
  • Strong understanding of databases, system architecture, and scalable backend design
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data
  • Comfortable making architectural decisions in evolving product environments
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical teammates

Bonus Points

  • Experience building AI-powered applications or LLM workflows
  • Experience with retrieval systems, semantic search, or RAG architectures
  • Experience with vector databases or search infrastructure (TurboPuffer experience is a plus)
  • Experience with embeddings, ranking, or information retrieval
  • Experience with event-driven architectures
  • Experience building enterprise SaaS platforms

The Extra Details

  • This is a full-time, permanent position with competitive compensation and stock options
  • We offer extended health benefits, unlimited paid vacation, and RRSP matching
  • Our headquarters are in St. John’s, Newfoundland, with flexible hybrid and remote options. This role can be performed remotely from anywhere in Canada.

Equity Note

Frequently cited statistics show that people who identify with historically marginalized groups are likely to apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We encourage you to help us break that statistic and apply even if you don’t meet every single qualification–your potential is what matters most to us.

  • Reasonable working familiarity with the full web stack, from infrastructure to CSS

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical decisions in a small, autonomous team environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication. You can explain a technical tradeoff to a non-engineer without losing what actually matters

  • Passion for education and desire to make a positive impact

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with higher education or edtech

  • Direct experience working with LLMs and generative AI in production

  • Familiarity with Docker, Ansible, and/or Terraform

  • Experience deploying on GCP

Full-Time Employee Benefits:

This is a 100% remote position! CodePath prioritizes employee well-being with a competitive benefits package to support your health, financial security, and work-life balance.

  • Health & Wellness: Medical, dental, and vision insurance (90% employer-covered for employees and dependents), employer-funded healthcare reimbursement, FSAs, and Employee Assistance Program

Job Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer who thrives at the intersection of craft and scale. You’ll design and deliver large-scale, multi-tenant cloud services — with a relentless focus on availability, fault-tolerance, and elegant architecture. You’ll set the bar for engineering quality and help elevate those around you.

Responsibilities

  • Shift Left Testing & Quality: You champion a rigorous ‘shift-left’ quality culture, embedding comprehensive testing—unit, integration, and contract—early and continuously in the development lifecycle, not as an afterthought.

  • AI Integration: Leverage and advocate for AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to accelerate development while maintaining rigorous engineering judgment and accountability for code correctness.

  • Leadership: Drive team-wide best practices, conduct quality code reviews, and mentor engineers to elevate overall engineering quality.

  • Collaboration (Product & Design): Partner with Product and Design to translate requirements into intuitive UI, making informed technical trade-offs in the face of ambiguity.

  • Collaboration (Engineering Standards): Champion engineering best practices across teams and collaborate on solving complex, high-impact problems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years building reliable, performant applications and microservices in production environments. Proven full stack fluency - you’re comfortable across frontend, backend, and the database layer.

  • A polyglot mindset — you evolve with the tech. Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, Node.js, or React.js is a strong plus.

  • Proven full-stack experience across frontend (React.js), backend, and database layers.

  • Technical depth in at least one engineering domain: distributed systems, multi-tenant SaaS, application databases, networking, security, serverless, event streaming, or similar.

  • A genuine drive to build beautiful, intuitive products with the customer always in focus. Innate curiosity — you love learning and have a desire to teach and lift others. Strong communication skills and openness to collaborative idea-sharing across teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Core Stack Experience: Familiarity with Ruby (including Ruby on Rails), TypeScript, Node.js, or React.js is a strong plus.

$120,000 - $190,000 a year

Engineer Senior Software Engineer at Samsara

Build zero-to-one products at scale by developing software systems that process IoT data and apply AI/ML to physical operations infrastructure.

Senior Posted about 6 hours ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

Who we are

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.

Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.

Recovering entrepreneur? Frustrated with bureaucracy? Want to write the roadmap, not inherit one?

We’re hiring across multiple levels and verticals. The nice thing about growing 30%+ at ~$2B ARR is that we need great engineers everywhere, and we have the room to shape the role around the right person. You build like a founder. We give you the platform to do it at scale.

About the role:

Samsara (NYSE: IOT) sits at the center of hardware, software, AI, and the physical world. The platform processes 25+ trillion data points annually from IoT sensors, cameras, and connected devices across thousands of organizations, and that dataset is compounding: it grew from 4 trillion to 25+ trillion in four years. We’re still early in turning that data into the products that will define how physical operations run, and we’re hiring the engineers who will build what comes next.

We’re approaching ~$2B ARR growing 30%+ year over year, with 96% of our largest customers on two or more products. The fastest-growing divisions at Samsara are tackling the hardest, most ambiguous problems at the company: building new products from scratch, applying AI and ML to massive real-world datasets, and shipping capabilities that change how organizations maintain equipment, manage fleets, and run day-to-day operations. Most of this work is zero-to-one, at billion-dollar scale.

We’re looking for software engineers who want to define what ships next. Leveling is broad and flexible: we’re hiring from Senior through Staff+, across platform and product, and we’re open to shaping scope around the right person’s strengths and interests. That window won’t stay open long.

This role is remote and open to candidates residing in the US. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will have real-world stakes: helping keep the lights on, getting food into grocery stores, keeping workers safe. What ships here isn’t metrics on a dashboard. It shows up on the loading dock, the job site, and the dispatch floor.
  • You want to build, not maintain. Samsara is in full growth mode. We’re building new systems from scratch, not babysitting old ones. You’d own entire problem spaces end to end, with the autonomy to set direction from day one.
  • You want to work where AI meets the physical world. Samsara has spent a decade building the largest proprietary dataset for physical operations. More connected assets generate more data, more data trains better models, better models drive more value, and more value wins more assets. The market and the opportunity here are what set us apart, not just the models.
  • You believe customers are more than a number. Samsara engineers have a rare closeness to end users. You’ll participate in customer interviews, collaborate with product managers and customer success, and use that context to build products that solve real problems operators face every day.
  • You have the curiosity and drive to figure it out. We’re looking for people who take pride in their work and get things done at all costs. The engineers who thrive here don’t wait to be told what to build. They define it, ship it, and own the outcome. The rate-limiting step on our teams isn’t tooling or process. It’s ambition.

In this role, you will:

  • Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and run with them. We want to point you in a direction and show up to the demo meeting impressed, not spend our weeks managing the details.
  • Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to the customer-facing UI.
  • Design and ship full-stack features end to end. You’ll work across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products that solve real operational problems.
  • Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous, real-world problems into clear technical plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Build and scale the systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and the workflows that put intelligence into the hands of operators.
  • Raise the bar for the engineers around you through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and by setting a standard for quality, velocity, and craft.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale.
  • Strong full-stack fundamentals. You’re comfortable working across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile) to ship complete products.
  • Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout, including managing ambiguity, driving alignment, and delivering measurable impact.
  • Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products. You don’t need to train models, but you know how to take AI capabilities and turn them into products customers love.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A track record of building: zero-to-one products, systems you left in a meaningfully better place, or hard problems you refused to let stay unsolved.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience shipping AI-powered features in production, whether that’s LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI.
  • Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.) to multiply your output and accelerate delivery.
  • Background working with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections) or a strong interest in learning the domain.
  • A proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture, standards, and best practices beyond a single team.
  • Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity and drive outside the scope of your day job.

Firstup expects the base salary for this role to be between $120,000-$190,000. The starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.

Why Firstup?

Because you care - about people, the work you do, and the connections you make. Work is such a large part of life; it only makes sense to make it awesome.

If you want to engage brilliant minds in a high-growth and inclusive environment where ideas are rewarded regardless of who they come from, join us. We offer an excellent PTO program, great health benefits, a casual and friendly environment, remote work, and a leadership team who truly believes in your growth – both personally and professionally.

Engineer Senior Back End Developer at CoLab

Senior backend engineer builds scalable retrieval pipelines, AI search infrastructure, and data services powering intelligent engineering workflows.

Firstup expects the base salary for this role to be between $120,000-$190,000. The starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.

Why Firstup?

Because you care - about people, the work you do, and the connections you make. Work is such a large part of life; it only makes sense to make it awesome.

If you want to engage brilliant minds in a high-growth and inclusive environment where ideas are rewarded regardless of who they come from, join us. This is a rapidly changing space so if you thrive on ambiguity, are hungry for a challenge, and have the guts to speak your mind, you could be a perfect fit.

We offer an excellent PTO program, great health benefits, a casual and friendly environment, remote work, and a leadership team who truly believes in your growth – both personally and professionally.

Firstup is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants for employment and to all employees, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, protected disability, veteran status, or any other protected status in accordance with applicable federal, state or local laws.

Engineer Senior Full-Stack Engineer, Internal Tools at Raya

Senior full-stack engineer leading internal tools architecture, designing scalable systems, and mentoring engineers while balancing hands-on coding with technical leadership.

Senior Posted 1 day ago RemoteFirstJobs Product
What this role involves

You’re the technical leader for Internal Tools, owning architecture, quality, and engineering standards for the tools our internal teams rely on every day. This isn’t a maintenance role. You’ll bring recommendation, ranking, and other data-driven techniques to bear on how our tools work, and push for smarter automation wherever it saves people time.

We’re looking for someone adept in AI-collaborative development who can define the right problems and balance human and technology intelligence to solve them thoughtfully. You’ll work directly with the Engineering Manager, who brings product requirements and technical vision; you turn them into specs, system designs, and implementation plans. You’re the team’s top technical voice while also being a high-output IC. Expect roughly a 80⁄20 split between hands-on coding and technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction for Internal Tools, including front-end architecture and component/design system strategy, and turn product requirements into technical designs and engineering tickets
  • Design and build new internal tools and admin features end-to-end, front-end through back-end
  • Find opportunities to apply recommendation, ranking, and search techniques to our tools, partnering with data science and product to set priorities
  • Drive down technical debt through targeted refactors and set engineering standards through design reviews
  • Build reusable components and tooling that pay off beyond a single project
  • Be the escalation point for deep debugging, and partner with security to keep admin interfaces locked down
  • Help engineers grow through pairing, code review, and direct feedback; write the specs and docs that let the team build with confidence

Qualifications

  • 5+ years building software, with a track record of shipping systems that scale
  • Strong system design and architecture skills
  • Extensive experience in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js
  • Advanced, production-grade React skills
  • Hands-on with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Elasticsearch, including performance tuning
  • Experience building and scaling backend systems, ideally at a startup or small company
  • Track record of mentoring engineers

What Sets You Apart

  • Production experience with Next.js
  • Experience with recommendation, ranking, or search systems
  • Product-minded: you think about users, not just systems
  • Background building internal tools or ops platforms
  • Comfortable with cloud infrastructure, Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD
  • Familiar with prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or shipping ML in production

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
